My name is Elena, I'm 17 years old and I'm currently doing my apprenticeship as an industrial clerk at the Haidlfing site.
Just one more week and I will have completed my first year of training at VEDDER.
It's crazy how quickly time flies in working life! I would like to look back on this last year with you.
On my first day at work, on 1 September 2021, all new trainees at VEDDER were warmly welcomed. In addition to an intensive introduction to the company and training, safety instructions, etc., we were also assigned our mentors. My mentor Julia is also completing her training at VEDDER. However, she is already in her 2nd year of training, which means she already has experience and knows the company better. She was able to empathise with me very well and thanks to her I quickly felt at ease.
Training as an industrial clerk is very varied, as I pass through many departments in the company.
My first department was General Administration. These four weeks were a total enrichment for me. New tasks, new colleagues and much more. However, they were also quite exhausting. It was a big transition from school to work. No holidays, getting up very early and the days were getting longer. That's why I was always very exhausted after work and went to bed early. Then it was off to the shops. I settled in a bit quicker there and was able to complete my tasks more independently. The only thing I was always totally nervous about at the beginning was phoning suppliers. After two weeks in quality management, I was even allowed to join our carpenters in production, and my feet ached every day after work because I wasn't used to standing all the time. Nevertheless, it was very interesting to get to know the „other side“ of the company. I was then allowed to stay in production and worked in logistics for 4 weeks. It was great there. Receiving parcels, packing goods and liaising with colleagues from the office and production. I really enjoyed this change of pace. After 7 long months and another stint in Purchasing, I'm now in Marketing, where we take care of our intranet, our Instagram profile and much more. I've also just been given the task of sharing my experiences at Young Talents with you 😉
In addition to the daily tasks in my departments, I was able to experience many other things. Of course, I was not averse to the invitation to take part in the annual carving course for carpentry trainees! This year, after a two-year coronavirus break, we also had another summer party in the VEDDER courtyard. The weather was incredible and the choice at the buffet was huge. It was nice to see our colleagues in private outside of work. And our trainee outing is still on the list this year. We'll all get to know each other better there.
MY CONCLUSION
Completing my apprenticeship at VEDDER was definitely the right decision. I was welcomed into working life very openly and warmly and everyone always has an open ear for you. The more departments I go through and the longer I'm with the company, the more independently tasks are completed and new challenges mastered.
