I am Ines, 23 years old and I am currently completing my training as an industrial clerk at the Lüdinghausen site.
For all of us, the current coronavirus situation means coming to terms with and dealing with restrictions to a certain extent. For us trainees, we are trying to ensure that we can continue to learn normally and work in our departments.
This proved to be very difficult at the start of 2020. Schools were closed and there were hardly any employees in the offices at VEDDER to minimise the risk of infection. In the end, I was also sent to work from home!
As the industrial clerk trainees are provided with a laptop for their training anyway, my personal home office was quickly set up. All I had to do was install the telephone software on my mobile phone and I was able to carry on as „normal“. Only this time from home instead of my usual workplace.
At the time, I was working in Purchasing and had just finished familiarising myself with a subject area to such an extent that I was able to work independently from home.
An unusual measure for someone who is currently in training. For me, however, it was a thoroughly positive experience. I was treated and valued as a fully-fledged employee, was able to work on my tasks independently as usual and at the same time always had a contact person to support me in my work. I was given the freedom to learn and from time to time I received calls from Laura - my training mentor - or the works council, who wanted to make sure that everything was going well and wanted to liven up the working day with a chat.
Above all, this time showed me how flexibly and responsibly VEDDER works. A lot of trust was placed in me and I was able to demonstrate my skills.
I now approach tasks with more confidence and certainty and have consolidated my knowledge in many areas.
